A key factor in releasing the potential of overseas markets can be the ability to communicate effectively with your counterparts. We can help you to do this by providing linguisitc services such as translation, interpreting or multi-lingual representatives who can act on your behalf in the overseas market. Misunderstandings can be costly. The picture to the left shows a pointing finger. In the United Kingdom mothers still tell their children that "it's rude to point" particularly when children are pointing at others but general it's ok to point. In Nepal it is offensive in most settings and pointing is done with an open palm, or an elbow where necessary. Closer to home cultural variations can be less obvious but equally important. In English we exchange "thank you" four or five times at the supermarket till. In France there are no "thank-yous" (or maybe one at the end) and it's not rude. In the business environment when one, both or all parties are working in a second language the potential for misunderstanding is enormous. Even if there are no misunderstandings of substance then there can be misunderstanding of tone, gesture and /or other culturally specific elements of communication. We offer the following cultural and linguistic services: If you would like to explore overseas markets for the first time, require specialist assistance with an emrging market or are an old hand looking for some extra manpower then please get in touch. |
